![]() A review of the existing City of Williamstown Conservation Study was to be undertaken as part of Stage Two but has been withdrawn by Council for lack of funding. Stage Two involves the detailed assessment of significance end documentation of those places that were identified to be of potential cultural significance to the City, Western Region of Melbourne, State of Victoria or Nation in the Stage One survey. Stage One also involved an estimation of the time and resources required to undertake this project, being Stage Two. The Heritage Study is divided into two stages Stage One, which has been completed, involved the preparation of a thematic environmental history and the identification of all places of potential cultural significance across the study area. Funding has also been provided by the Department of Infrastructure. This study is commissioned by the City of Hobsons Bay, referred to as Council in the following report. The purpose of this heritage study is to identify, assess and document all post contact places of cultural significance within the Altona, Laverton & Newport districts of the municipality and to make recommendations for the future conservation of these places. Such studies include interviews with ex-tenants of the Werribee Park Estate, research into the history of the early squatting families, studies of rural landscapes, including bluestone buildings and dry stone walls, and a constant co-operations with members of the local historical societies in finding out more about the early settlers of the region. ![]() The study builds on earlier work in the area, including oral history interviews, documentary research and physical surveys, looking at the way of life of the people of the pastoral land west of Melbourne. With the assistance of a National Estate Grant, Melbourne's Living Museum of the West, carried out a study of the history of pastoral estates in Melbourne's Western Region during 1992-3, as part of a continuing program of documenting, researching and presenting the history, culture and environment of the region. The Melton Shire Sewerage Authority, extended their irrigation development which required the Pinkerton family grave site and historic pioneer cairn to be. ![]() It is this region, and specifically the evidence of the first non Aboriginal settlement of the district - the pastoral estates, which is the subject of this study. Bare flat ground, punctuated by low volcanic hills which were the volcanoes from which lava spread out to form undulating plains sloping almost imperceptibly from the foot of the Brisbane Ranges and Wombat Forest down to Port Phillip Bay. Their appearance has changed little from before European settlement. Also note that to once you dig up the Thief's Grave, other graves become locked. ![]() Pinkerton Grave: As soon as you receive graves' locations, the Pinkerton Grave should pop up just a little bit south from Grimy Grave, which is placed directly east from Hope. The open grassy plains are one of the most characteristic landscapes of Melbourne's Western Region. Fate Trader is present in later scenarios - 'Hard Times' does not have one. ![]()
